WINGATE PULLOVER
Twisted stitch bands embellish the shoulders, neck, and front of this elegant pullover. Worked in sportweight yarn, with a simple, unstructured silhouette, this versatile sweater is both casual and stylish. FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Bust - 32 (34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44)(46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 56)". Intended to be worn with 0-2" of ease. Size shown is 40" with 2" of ease. Length - 20½ (21, 21, 21½, 21½, 22, 22)(22½, 22½, 23, 23, 23¼, 23½)". YARN: 1225 (1316, 1364, 1464, 1530, 1633, 1691)(1802, 1878, 1993, 2052, 2144, 2245) yds sport weight wool or wool blend. Shown in Valley Yarns "Valley Superwash Sport" (100% merino wool; 153yds/50gr) - Misty Lilac #14. 8 (9, 9, 10, 10, 11, 11)(12, 13, 13, 14, 14, 15) balls. NEEDLES: U.S. size 4 (3.5mm) 32" (80cm) or longer circular needle. U.S. size 4 (3.5mm) 16" (40cm) circular needle. Circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches. Adjust needle size as needed to obtain correct gauge. OTHER: Cable needle, stitch holders, removable stitch markers, tapestry needle, waste yarn or spare needle. GAUGE: 24 sts/36 rows = 4" in stockinette, blocked. SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate. Techniques include provisional cast on, twisted stitches, m1 increases, decreases, short rows, simultaneous shaping, and picking up stitches. CONSTRUCTION: Beginning with a provisional cast on, Twisted Stitch bands are worked for the neck, shoulders, and tops of sleeves. Stitches are picked up from both edges of the band and worked top down for the fronts and back. The shoulders and back neck are shaped with short rows, the underarms are shaped with bind offs, and the V-neck is shaped with increases. Stitches are picked up for ribbing at the neck and wrists.
