BAYSWATER CARDIGAN
Lacy panels add elegant and uncluttered appeal to this classic open front cardigan. Featuring drop shoulder sleeves and slight A-line shaping, all edges are bound off with I-cord for a lovely finishing touch. FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Bust - 32½ (37, 41, 45)(49½, 53, 57)" based on twice finished back measurement. Fronts open at center 2-4¼". Intended to be worn with 0-2" of ease. Length - 22 (22½, 23½, 24½)(25½, 25¾, 26¼)". YARN: 1080 (1190, 1340, 1480)(1640, 1750, 1860) yds DK weight wool or wool blend. Shown in Miss Babs "Killington" (85% Polwarth Wool, 15% Tussah Silk; 700yds/8.5oz) - Coconut Bay. 2 (2, 2, 3)(3, 3, 3) skeins. NEEDLES: U.S. size 5 (3.75mm) 32" (80cm) circular needle. U.S. size 4 (3.5mm) 32" (80cm) circular needle. Circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches. Adjust needle size as needed to obtain correct gauge. OTHER: Waste yarn, stitch markers, removable stitch markers, tapestry needle. GAUGE: 21 sts/32 rows = 4" in stockinette on larger needle, blocked. 18 sts = 3" wide in Lace on larger needle, lightly blocked. SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate. Techniques include long tail cast on, m1 increases, decreases, simple lace, picking up stitches, German short rows, and I-cord bind off. CONSTRUCTION: Stitches are cast on for the upper back and worked down to the hem, with increases for side shaping. Fronts are picked up from the shoulder seams and worked down to the hem, with increases for side shaping. Sleeves are picked up from the armholes, worked flat to the cuffs, finished with I-cord bind off, and seamed. Back and fronts are seamed, and finished at the hem with garter stitch and I-cord bind off.
